Eri Youth
Festival 2004 Sawa, Eritrea
The National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students (NUEYS) invites young Eritreans to join in Eritrea's first Youth Festival under the theme "By the Youth For the Youth", to be held in July 2004. This Youth Festival is organized by youth, for youth, with the aim of meeting youth expectations.
Who can participate?
Young people from different parts of Eritrea and all over the world are welcome
to take part in the Youth Festival. Youth of different backgrounds, ethnicity,
origins, languages, beliefs, attitudes and behaviors will gather together for
the festival, all sharing a common dream - a unified, strong and joyful Eritrea.
What activities will the Youth Festival include?
The Youth Festival will involve many activities to enhance unity, pride, mutual
understanding and solidarity among youth. These will include:
Sport activities:
including soccer, basketball and volleyball games, athletics, cycling,
chess, camel and horse-racing, body building and billiards;
Cultural activities: including
live music, discos, drama and puppet shows, general knowledge competitions,
poetry, short stories and fashion shows;
A-forestation: tree-planting to
care for and regenerate Eritrea's precious environment;
Let's talk around the fire: group
discussions around a campfire;
Panel discussion and seminars:
Eritrean youth will discuss the country's past, present and future. There will
also be presentations by scholars, historians and other experts regarding
Eritrean youth and the country in general;
Prize 'Zagre':
Zagre is a prize awarded to outstanding students in both high school and
university;
Proud to be Eritrean:
Eritreans from the Diaspora who are 18 years old during the years
2003-2004 will be presented with their official Eritrean ID cards (which are
prepared in their respective Eritrean Embassies) from senior members of
Eritrea's government;
'Sense Eritrea':
tours for young people to different parts of Eritrea in order for them
to experience the natural beauty and amazing diversity of this unique country;
Youth villages: young Eritreans from all over Eritrea and from the Diaspora will introduce the cultural heritage of their own geographic areas with traditional artifacts and handicrafts produced by the youth of their region.
How can I participate?
Any young Eritrean from any part of Eritrea or the world is welcome to
participate in the Youth Festival, in whatever way they like. You might like to
be a spectator, or you might like to take part in any of the activities
mentioned above. For example, your sports team might like to compete in a sports
tournament; you might like to introduce the area you live in at the youth
village; or you could exhibit your paintings, sculptures, photographs or any
other artwork.

first Youth Festival, please contact the Festival organizers at the address

How do I get to Eritrea?
NUEYS is currently negotiating a reduced cost airfare with Eritrean Airlines for
delegates to the Youth Festival, and is also examining the possibility of
chartering a private airplane. We are also liaising with Eritrean Immigration
Authorities to make sure delegates to the Youth Festival find the immigration
and customs procedures quick and easy.
So come along!
NUEYS greatly anticipates welcoming young Eritreans to the first Eri-Youth
Festival. We are sure it will be a fantastic opportunity for youth from all over
Eritrea and the world to come together and share their knowledge, experiences,
hopes and dreams, as well as their visions for the future of this glorious
country. To ensure that the Youth Festival successfully meets your expectations,
we would be grateful if you would provide your important ideas and input by
completing the attached questionnaire.
See you in Eritrea in July!
